From the Court to the Core: How TeamFAME is Building the Leaders of Tomorrow
At TeamFAME, we believe true champions are forged not just on the court, but in the mind and spirit. This winter, our students embarked on an immersive journey to unlock their fullest potential - and the results have been nothing short of transformative.
TeamFAME’s Winter Session: Developing Character and Confidence
Through a dynamic six-week series of workshops, our student-athletes dove deep into the "inner game" - focusing on the character, mindset, and leadership skills that define a person long after they leave the court.
In partnership with experts from The Person First and Gnome Surf Therapy, our students explored strategies for strengthening their inner voice and positive decision-making. They acted out conflict resolution scenarios, applying proven sports psychology principles to navigate challenges constructively.
One particularly impactful activity was the "Blindfolded Obstacle Course." Students had to trust and guide their teammates through a series of obstacles without sight, developing crucial leadership skills in the process. As one student shared, "One way I showed leadership today was guiding my friend in a maze of chairs and desks. I felt proud that she trusted me and gained trust as well."
The students also engaged in creative, team-building exercises that allowed them to envision their future aspirations. Through the "Sun Butter and Jelly Sandwich Challenge," they learned firsthand how clarity and collaboration are essential for success. And in designing their own personalized sports jerseys, they connected their current values to the qualities they are working to embody.
These are the kinds of transformative experiences that set TeamFAME apart. By investing in the whole child - academically, athletically, and personally - we are cultivating a new generation of leaders who will shape the future of their communities.
TeamFAME's Takeaways:
"Leadership used to mean someone was bossing you around, now it means someone who is honest and trustworthy."
"I admire a leader who always support their peers even at their lowest since they know it will help their team grow."
"A character trait I want to practice is self control, because when I don’t have self control, I end up doing something that can have bad consequences."
“The voice I’m leaving behind is my bullies and the people who talk negatively about me.”
The growth we see in our TeamFAME students each session is a reminder that when young people are given the right support, mentorship, and opportunities, they can achieve extraordinary things.
