TEAMFAME IS OFF TO AN INSPIRING START!
TeamFAME's after-school program is off to an inspiring start for the 2026 school year! From the youngest 5th graders learning new skills and developing a love of the game to the seniors deep in the college process, it's been a full and exciting fall for our student-athletes.
Bringing students together:
TeamFAME middle schoolers have been working hard—on the court, in the classroom, and throughout their community—as they put their best foot forward this school year. TeamFAME introduced several updates, including additional program days and mixed-grade levels. These changes have helped students form new friendships, meet teammates outside their grade level, and learn from one another along the way. To build connections, students participate in daily team-building activities designed to help them feel comfortable, confident, and engaged.
Girl Power!
This fall also featured an empowering event bringing together middle school, high school, and college-level female athletes. Six-time major champion Rennae Stubbs shared her expertise, advice, and on-court guidance, inspiring students of all ages. Thanks to support from Gainbridge, Parity, and the Women's Sports Foundation, the event was both impactful and memorable. The lessons learned will stay with them for a lifetime!
Serving Up Academic Success
Academics continues to be a priority at TeamFAME. This fall, students focused on developing skills that support and empower students throughout middle, high school and beyond—including navigating online grade portals, learning how to write emails, strengthening executive functioning skills, and building the confidence to advocate for themselves.
Each day includes a 20-minute block for ACE Learning Zone, where students practice these skills, complete homework, and receive academic support from volunteers from Salve Regina University and St. George’s School.
Enrichment and Values-Based Education
The 5th graders have been serving it up on and off the court through weekly cooking lessons with URI SNAP-Ed. Preparing recipes that highlight different cultures and seasonal ingredients has quickly become one of their favorite activities.
Gratitude—a core tennis value—remains central to all TeamFAME programming. This fall, students and families participated in several community service projects, including helping at Pell community dinners and planting trees at Miantonomi Park. Many students have even taken the initiative to volunteer independently at the public library or with local organizations like Bike Newport.
High School Highlights
TeamFAME’s high school program has been busier than ever from college visits to family financial aid sessions; student-athletes are receiving the guidance they need as they prepare their next steps. A group of high schoolers joined by a few 8th graders visited Providence College, where they toured the campus, met with an admissions representative, and enjoyed lunch in the dining hall.
On the court, the Rogers High School girl's tennis team had a standout season. Captained by a TeamFAME senior and featuring several TeamFAME athletes in the lineup, the team finished as state championship finalists. Though they narrowly missed the title, they displayed remarkable sportsmanship, gratitude, and team pride—arguably the biggest victories of all.
Recognition
TeamFAME is proud to be recognized by the Newport Public Education Foundation as the 2025 Partner in Education. This honor underscores the collective effort of our students, families, educators, volunteers, and supporters. It truly takes a team—and we’re grateful for every member of ours.
