COMPOSTING, COMPETITION AND COMMUNITY SERVICE HIGHLIGHT SPRING FOR TEAMFAME

TeamFAME student-athletes were busy this spring excelling in the classroom and on the court, giving back to their local community, learning valuable life skills, and exploring college and career readiness opportunities.

Spring is an exciting time of year for TeamFAME as student-athletes get to showcase their skills and competitive spirit through middle school matches. For some students, this was their first experience playing a match. The camaraderie, teamwork, and growth were evident as TeamFAME students left it all out on the court. Students were excited to have familiar faces cheering them on from parents, teachers, and community members showing their support!

In the classroom, students have been diligently working towards maintaining their academic success. The hard work has paid off, with a high percentage of students improving their math and reading levels. Outside of the classroom, students were engaged in various enrichment opportunities thanks to a continued partnership with Citizens Bank.

Through six weeks of financial literacy lessons, students learned about budgeting and saving money, culminating in a visit to the local branch! 8th graders and TeamFAME alums, had the opportunity to take a trip to Johnston, Rhode Island where they explored Citizens Bank Headquarters. Students were intrigued by the expansive array of career opportunities that Citizens Bank has to offer.

When they are not on the court or in the classroom, TeamFAME students find time to give back to their local community. Most recently, students used their green thumbs to plant community gardens throughout Newport including Thompson Middle School, Park Holm Senior Center, Great Friends Garden for MLK Community Center and TeamFAME’s own compost garden. The food grown in these gardens will be donated to local food pantries and help provide healthy fresh vegetables to families in need.

TeamFAME high schoolers have been making strides on and off the court as well. The Tides, the inaugural Rogers/Middletown co-op boy's tennis team made their mark in their first year with a successful season, making it to the second round of the state championship playoffs. TeamFAME high schoolers also learned that it's never too early to start taking steps towards playing at the next level. Through TeamFAME’s mentorship program in partnership with Salve Regina, the men's and women's tennis players continue to build relationships and help guide the next generation towards making their dreams a reality.
