Lleyton Hewitt Memorabilia Arrives in Newport
Australian tennis legend Lleyton Hewitt will officially be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame this July. Hewitt amassed 30 singles titles during his 18-year career on the ATP Tour and was instrumental in two Davis Cup victories for Australia. While he is a member of the Class of 2021, Hewitt was unable to take part in the 2021 induction ceremony due to COVID related travel restrictions.
Each year the ITHF creates an exhibit in the museum to honor the incoming Class. Some of the most memorable items from Leyton's career have already arrived at the International Tennis Hall of Fame, including trophies from his singles and doubles championships at the 2014 Hall of Fame Open.
Hewitt's Australian pride and representation on the game's international stage are well-reflected in his chosen items to share. Match-worn apparel includes shoes and a jacket worn during Davis Cup competition, along with another pair of shoes and a racquet used in his final Australian Open performance in 2016.
Aussie culture and sport is also celebrated in Hewitt's selections, including an F1 racing helmet signed by driver Mark Webber, a hand-painted didgeridoo, framed print of the poem "Green and Gold Malaria" by Rupert McCall, and more.
These items will be featured in the Museum beginning in early May 2022.
Tickets to take part in Enshrinement Weekend will be on sale in Spring 2022.
