Family Fun Weekend continues today! 3-time NCAA Champ Steve Johnson advances to Round 2 in Quallies
There was plenty of action at the Hall of Fame yesterday, both for pros and fans alike!
In Round 1 of the Qualifying Tournament 3-time NCAA singles champion and recent University of Southern California grad Steve Johnson advanced to th second round, defeating ATP World Tour veteran Jimmy Wang of Taipei, 7-5, 7-5. Today, Johnson will face Charles-Antoine Brezac in round 2, as they vie for a spot in the Campbell's Hall of Fame Tennis Championships Main Draw.
The Qualifying Tournament's No. 1 seed Benjamin Becker advanced as well, defeating Raven Klaasen, 6-2, 6,4. Michael Yani, who qualified for Newport last year and advanced to the semifinals was victorious over up and coming American player Denis Kudla, 6-0, 6-4.

Topping off the tennis action, yesterday's opening day offered fun special events including tennis clinics for ages 16 & Under, and featuring USTA 10 & Under tennis. In the Museum, families played Nintendo Wii tennis on a big screen, and explored the Museum with Scavenger Hunts. See some fun pics of the day, here!
As qualifying action wound down, several hundred sponsors, fans, volunteers, and members gathered with some of the week's biggest stars for the annual Newport Draw Party. Defending Champion John Isner kicked things off with comments about what a fun week is ahead for Newport, and nine other players including Kei Nishikori, Milos Raonic, Jack Sock, Go Soeda, and defending doubles champion Matt Ebden looked on as the draw of who would play who was pulled from the tournament's beautiful silver trophy, the Van Alen Cup.
