This woman from Belgium was ranked #1 in the world and won 41 WTA singles titles, including four majors (US Open in ’05, ’09-’10 and Australian Open ’11). Prior to being inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame, Clijsters met with ITHF historian-at-large Joel Drucker at Roland-Garros to review three of her finest moments.

At first glance, International Tennis Hall of Fame Global Ambassador Gustavo Kuerten appeared to be a low-key surfer dude. But deep inside this Brazilian’s lanky frame and affable manner beat the heart of a passionate warrior. “Guga” would win three Grand Slam titles – taking Roland-Garros in 1997, 2000 and 2001. He’d also finish the year 2000 ranked number one in the world. Kuerten was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2012. Shortly before being given his Hall of Fame ring at the 2017 French Open, Kuerten shared his three finest tennis moments with ITHF historian-at-large Joel Drucker.

Guga Kuerten presented Hall of Fame ring at the French Open

It was twenty years ago this year that that Guga Kuerten burst onto the global tennis scene when he powered through the French Open draw, defeating two past champions en route to winning the 1997 French Open title. It was the start of an extraordinary career that eventually earned him a spot in the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2012. In celebration of this achievement, Guga was presented with his Hall of Fame ring just ahead o the 2017 Men's Final.

The announcement was made today at Roland Garros, where the Brazilian star and 2012 Hall of Fame inductee is a three-time past champion. Kuerten will represent the organization at upcoming special events, particularly in South America, and will support efforts to build awareness for the Hall of Fame's mission among the worldwide tennis community.
