Win a Chance to Play for Team USA in the Kia Amateur Australian Open!
NEWPORT, R.I., September 3, 2010 - This fall, Kia Motors is providing amateur tennis players in the United States with an opportunity to experience a thrill like no other - to represent their country as a member of Team USA at the World Finals of the Kia Amateur Australian Open (KAAO) in Melbourne, Australia. The International Tennis Hall of Fame will host one of four qualifying tournaments in the United States to qualify for the 2011 Kia Amateur Australian Open. The Eastern Qualifying event will be held at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, R.I. on September 25 - 26, 2010. Registration for this event has now closed.
"As the popularity of the sport of tennis continues to grow, and opportunities for amateurs to compete on a global level are increasingly more difficult, Kia Motors is proud to provide these players the chance of a lifetime to play against the other outstanding players from around the world in one of the premier venues in the world," said Michael Sprague, vice president of marketing, Kia Motors America.
The competition kicks off in September, when the International Tennis Hall of Fame hosts the first of four regional qualifying tournaments for amateurs vying for a spot in the finals.
"We are very proud to partner with Kia Motors on this exciting tournament," said Mark L. Stenning, CEO of the International Tennis Hall of Fame. "Having hosted all of the greatest champions of tennis at one time, the historic grass courts of the International Tennis Hall of Fame are an ideal venue for the region's top amateurs to set their sights on the remarkable prize of competing against players from around the world at the Kia Amateur Australian Open."
Four qualifying tournaments will produce eight semifinalists (four male; four female), who will face-off in November to determine a male and female champion who will represent the United States at the KAAO in January 2011. The Eastern Qualifying event at the Hall of Fame is the first of the qualifying tournaments.
Qualifying events are open to amateur participants over the age of 21, who can register at each event's host club. Any player who has earned a point in an ATP and/or WTA event is ineligible to compete in the amateur tournament.
