Highly regarded by the tennis community, this New Yorker used a remarkably effective backhand to achieve some significant honors, enjoying a good deal of success playing indoors.  He came away with the U.S.  Indoor title three times, and captured the U.S. Indoor Doubles Championship on four occasions.  Tall and thin, he had an ideal build for the game and he fashioned triumphs with impressive regularity when he was at the zenith of his game.
