An amateur tennis official of almost unprecedented power and authority, Perry T. Jones was known as the “czar” of Southern California tennis during the 1950s and 1960s. He was President of the Southern California Tennis Association and Tournament Director of the prestigious Pacific Southwest Championships at the peak of his administrative powers, raising money funds to support outstanding junior players. He served as captain of the U.S. Davis Cup team in 1958 and 1959 and was a singularly influential administrative figure in his time.
