Born and raised in Norway, Molla Bjurstedt Mallory, a powerful and tenacious baseliner, moved to the United States in 1914, only two years after garnering a gold medal as a Norwegian in the Olympic Games. She collected an astonishing eight United States Championships to set a record, carving out her triumphs with unbridled intensity and a large will to win. The cornerstone of her game was the forehand, a shot she exploited to the fullest against all of her adversaries. Mallory won her last Grand Slam event when she was 42.
