As a member of the “Greatest Generation” of American players that included Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi and Jim Courier, Chang was the first of that illustrious group to record a victory at a Grand Slam event. At 17 in 1989, he became the youngest men’s victor at a major by claiming the French Open title. Industrious, ambitious, unwavering and purposeful, Chang went on to reach the finals of the Australian Open and U.S. Open, as well as reaching the title round once more at Roland Garros. No one is his era had a larger heart.
