Wearing a white flannel cap over her dark hair, Charlotte “Lottie” Dod was the embodiment of poise, precision and determination on the court. The youngest player ever to win Wimbledon, she took her first singles title in 1887 at age 15 and completed an unblemished record with her fifth championship at 21. A prodigious athlete, she forsook tennis to become British National Golf champion in 1904. She also performed remarkably well in field hockey, ice skating, and archery.
