As clean a ball striker as tennis as ever produced, Ken Rosewall had an almost unparalleled run of success at the game’s highest level. He captured major titles in his teens, in his twenties and thirties, a feat matched only by Pete Sampras in the men’s game. He appeared in four Wimbledon singles finals spanning 20 years. Rosewall appeared in two major finals at the age of 39, and won his last official tournament at 43. His impeccable backhand was taken right out of a textbook. Above all else, Rosewall was dignified and self-deprecating.
