Succeeding with a distinctive style of play, John Bromwich twice won his native Australian Championships in singles and captured that tile no fewer than eight times in doubles. Although he was a natural left-hander, he served with his right hand, hit a two-handed stroke from his right side, and used only his left hand from that side of his body. Despite his idiosyncrasies, Bromwich fit right into the tradition of Australian tennis, comporting himself honorably on the international circuit.
