George Adee, an outstanding amateur tennis player in the 1900s, as well as an All-American quarterback at Yale University, became Chairman of the U.S. Davis Cup Committee, the USNLTA Amateur Rules Committee, and other prominent American tennis activities. He was elected to the Hall of Fame for those endeavors and served as President of the USNLTA for four years (1916-19). He played in the U.S. Championships six times and served in the U.S. Army during the Spanish-American War and World War I.
