A magnificent doubles player with uncanny instincts at the net and off the ground, Bob Hewitt was a true master of the doubles craft. He was an enduringly elegant player who won Men’s Doubles Championships at Wimbledon 16 years apart. He took three of those crowns with Frew McMillan but also triumphed on the British grass twice with Fred Stolle. He secured either men’s or mixed doubles titles at all four major championships. He grew up in Australia but became a South African resident.
