A remarkably persistent and durable competitor, Beals Wright was ranked eleven times in the American top ten, reaching the highly coveted No. 1 spot in 1905. That was the year he won the U.S. Singles Championship, defeating doubles partner Holcombe Ward in the final. A left-hander, he played singles and doubles for the United States in Davis Cup and captured three U.S. Doubles Championships with Ward. Wright played with consistency over a long span, defining himself in the process.
