Congrats to the Winners of the Kia Amateur Australian Open Eastern Regional Tournament!
Sept. 6, 2011-- Tennis players from throughout New England and New York gathered at the International Tennis Hall of Fame on September 24 - 25 to compete for an incredible prize - the chance to represent the United States in Melbourne, Australia in January at the Kia Amateur Australian Open.
This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is presented by Kia Motors and hosted in conjunction with the first Grand Slam of the pro tennis season, the Australian Open. The Hall of Fame hosted the Eastern Regional Tournament, from which one male and one femal winner will advance to the US finals in November, at a location to be named, and then one talented man and woman from that event will receive an all expense paid trip to Australian Open for the player and a guest, where the player will compete against other national champions from around the world!
In the Men's Division at the Eastern Regional Tournament, Louis Desmarteaux of Hull, Mass., once again claimed the victory. Desmarteaux defeated Eric Fleming of Roslindale, Mass., 6-2,6-1, to secure his spot in the National Championships. Desmarteaux also won the Eastern Regional event in 2009, after which he won the National Championships, and went on to compete at the Kia Amateur Australian Open in Melbourne, ultimately being crowned World Champion.
In the Women's Division Lindsay Grossman of Cohasset, Ma. won the title.
Congrats to the Champions and Good Luck in the National Championships!
